Volunteering with rescue dogs is an opportunity that offers me meaning and a sense of purpose. Cliche as it may be I know that dogs complete me and by volunteering with rescue dogs at Big Dog Ranch Rescue it’s a win-win situation since the dogs benefit from my being there with/for them as do I benefit from their awesome energy and endless life lessons like living in the moment and learning how to accommodate to one’s current circumstances.
Being at the Ranch is my “happy place.”
In an attempt to make the lives of these rescue dogs more comfortable I’ve taken on the mission of gathering “in-kind donations” of sheets, towels, blankets, pillows, bathroom rugs and dog beds from my neighbors and neighboring communities to give to the Rescue for lining the dogs’ rooms with comfy, soft things to lay on. I’ve also asked for a donation of needed hard plastic puppy toys from Nylabone and they kindly agreed to make a large donation of such toys. I am continuing to seek donations from other companies that make things on the Rescue’s wish list including items for the medical team.
I plan to get involved with trying to help get the senior sanctuary built, up and running for all the senior dogs many of whom will live out their lives at the Ranch since they are a “no-kill” shelter and not everyone wants a senior dog. I have a special place in my heart for these senior dogs and also the “special needs” dogs who may be harder to get adopted. Perhaps I can convince the Ranch to make the sanctuary a place for senior and for special needs dogs.
